SFA Global Media students were “getting their hands on the real world” as part of a recent New Media lab. According to Greg Patterson, professor of New Media, “This lab simulates a journalist working in the field reporting breaking news.” Students are equipped with a cell phone synched to a Blogger blog that immediately publishes the students post. “New Media students were given the task to interview other students on campus questions related to the US economy. Combine good reporting with a cell phone, they were able to make live posts which were published before they even got back to the lab.”

Fifteen Stephen F. Austin State University students explored the opportunities for internships and jobs in New York City as part of the Division of Communication and Contemporary Culture COM 401 MayMester 2009.

Their research, bios and reflections of the trip can be found by visiting the student designed website Meet the Media 2009.

The course, taught by Dr. Linda Bond allows students interested in Global Media to explore various media outlets, networking, and gaining that hands-on experience.
